Great pics of the Guarini architecture -- there's something a little trippy about it, especially the cupola. Those cafés are gorgeous! I wish cafés in NYC had tiny treats like that.
Yes and I didn’t even mention the “holy shroud” cupola…that one is even more trippy! I know I am waiting for the rest of the world to pick up on pasticcini…
That's interesting, thank you. I'm well familiar with images of the Shroud but not its setting. (Guarini was included in Baroque at history class in art school, but that was a looong time ago.) Online pics of the overlapping geometries of the dome do look hallucinatory.
That was wonderful, thank you. We were lucky enough to visit Turin in 2008 when on honeymoon in the north of Italy. We were staying in an agriturismo near Asti and the owners urged us to visit Turin, it would not have occurred to us otherwise. By sheer coincidence we stayed in a hotel in the Lingotto complex and the Slow Food "Salone del Gusto" was on next door, one of the most amazing events we've ever attended; we almost literally ran into Antonio Carluccio in the hotel but we were too starstruck to talk to him! We loved the cafes and the elegant boulevards although there were a lot of streets dug up at the time for - I think - a metro extension. I think we will have to seriously consider another visit.
What a fun and interesting read. Beautiful photos as well! So appreciated as I will never travel there so nice to experience a "local" tour. Look forward to the next!
All those little treats with your coffees, and in such amazing surroundings. To think that all I did in Torino was change trains. Talk about a missed opportunity!
It was so lovely strolling along with you, in a literary sense, through Torino and its environs. What a gorgeous stroll!

Thank you for that beautiful tour! ☕️
Thank you bringing a bit of Italian sunshine to a cloudy Belgium day! It makes me want to revisit Torino and walk again through that beautiful city.
