I went to college in New Haven, CT, where they claim to have invented pizza. Obviously a myth, but it seems like this is the main style of pizza the great pizza spots there were serving.

How was the crust? As soft as the one described here? Or more crunchy and sturdy as the NY style? I’ve had new haven pizza only one and it was a take away so it was kind of cold by the time we got to it...so it was very hard for me to judge...

But you know, lots of people believe that style of pizza is actually the closest to 19th century Neapolitan pizza...subject for another piece 😉

The crust was soft in most cases.

Interesting! I’ll get into it in another post…there’s a newish book by amazing food historian Luca Cesari about the true history of pizza and he gets into some of these things…including the new haven white clam pizza actually being very close to the 19th century Neapolitan pizza 🤯

I have had pizza napoletana, but only in name. Very poor substitutes of what you describe here so mouth-wateringly!

Love your post! We've only been to Naples, Italy once, and the food was awesome!

We love Sapori di Napoli in our town, Decatur, GA. Sapori closes when they go back to Naples each year so they can maintain their pizza quality.
